breaking news

i was never really interested in news but these deserve everyone's attention. they're depressing news and i got sad hearing them. First one, Pope John Paul II just died. actually, i was supposed to write this post last night and the heading for the Pope goes something like this - Pope John Paul II's health is deteriorating... i didn't expect that he would die today. we should really pray for him and for the guy who will replace him. The other news occured last week i think, Terri Schiavo, the woman who suffered severe brain damage followed by a heart attack, died. and the battle for the rights of disabled people has begun.

Pope John Paul II dies

as i opened my internet explorer, i immediately saw this headline. it was shocking so i texted my mom about it and she said kanina pa. so while i was sleeping, the Pope died.

i remembered praying for him yesterday during our facilitator's training for our youthcamp (btw, it's on April 29, 30 and May 1 so for those who would like to join, comment here lol) and i asked God to be with the Pope and whatever God's plan is for the Pope, let it be. well, maybe it was really the Pope's time to die. God has plans for us and maybe the Pope knew it was his time to die because he just wanted to stay at his home in the Vatican to be with the people concerned about his health.

millions of people around the world prayed for his health but eventually, he died.

Terri Schiavo's feeding tube removed = death

TerriSchiavo is the woman from Florida who suffered brain damage followed by a heart attack. And her severely damaged brain left her helpless and disabled, relying on a feeding tube for her nutrients and fluids. Her potassium deficiency was improperly diagnosed so she had a heart attack and collapse and that damaged her brain. so she was granted the right for rehabilitation and continuation of her life.

BUT after 13 years of living through a feeding tube, she was under pvs or persistent vegetative state... her husband wanted to remove the tube for her wife to die a natural death which is starvation to death... on the other hand, her parents wanted to keep the tube and wait for their daughter's rehabilitation... and so, the debate went on...

my mom watched the news on cnn for days and i watched with her.. i was interested exchanging my views with my mon, i wanted to remove the feeding tube to end her suffering, and if it's really the time for her to die, we couldn't do anything... but my mom insisted that Catholics (terris parents are) reject euthanasia - mercy killing... what do you think??

but as the idea went to the courts, the courts sided with michael - terri's husband, andremoved the tube last March 18th... the feeding tube was removed and it led to her natural death...

one side note --- terri's husband, michael, was married to another woman... hmmm - did he really want terri to die? or he just wanted to kill her? - there's a difference...

news, news, news... the world is really complicated...
